Report lodged against Khir Toyo for stirring up ‘azans’

A police report was today lodged against former Selangor menteri besar Dr Mohd Khir Toyo and an Umno-linked blog for allegedly spreading “malicious slander” and “lies” purporting the Selangor government had issued directives against (calls for prayers) made from mosques in the state.
.
PAS Kota Raja MP Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud lodged the report at the Dang Wangi district police station in Kuala Lumpur, complaining that Khir’s statement, published in Malay daily Utusan Malaysia on Tuesday, was “maliciously intended and aimed at raising the anger and concerns of Malay Muslims”.

.
In the Utusan report, Khir was reported to have reminded the opposition Pakatan Rakyat-led Selangor government not to concede to moves purportedly “by a certain party” to disallow the calls for prayers emanating from mosques in Puchong and Kota Damansara from being made through loud speakers.
.
“If you meet with Malay Muslims, you will find that these (racial) issues are being hotly debated. We are worried. I believe the intention (behind Khir’s statements) can be nothing but bad,” she told reporters after lodging the police report.
